About Port Cos

BASIC INFORMATION

• The flag of Port Cos is blue, like that of Cos, but it is different enough to tell them apart (Renegades of Gor, 345)
• The Pledge of the Topaz is a private agreement between Ar's Station and Port Cos to come to one another's aid (Renegades of Gor, 346-47). Port Cos is also Ar Station's greatest rival on the Vosk (Renegades of Gor, 412)
• Port Cos has many taverns: The Dina, The Veminium, The Larma, The Cage, The Jewels of Telnus, Artemidorus' Cargo, The Secret Basement, The Hold, The Scarlet Whip, The Tavern of the Collar of the Two Chains (Renegades of Gor, 437). Port Cos does not welcome the intrusion of either Ar or Cos upon the river (Renegades of Gor, 382)

THE NAVY OF PORT COS

• The commander of Port Cos' naval forces is called the First Captain. His flagship is the Tais (Renegades of Gor, 347)
• River Galleys are single banked (that is, only one row of oars on each side of the ship) with seldom more than twenty oars per side. They are shorter masted than a Thassa galley, and usually have just one lateen rigged mast. They push off from the dock with the three traditional poles. They have two anchors, one at the bow and one at the stern. A huge eye is painted at the bow. They are equipped with stern castles from which archers can fire. (Renegades of Gor, 354-56)

THE HARBOR OF PORT COS

• The Pharos (lighthouse) of Port Cos lies on a promontory at the southwestern-most point of the harbor. It is a tall, cylindrical structure 150 feet high. It tapers upward and is 20 feet in diameter at the top. It is yellow and red in horizontal sections, the colors of the Builders and Warriors. At night, with fires and mirrors, it is a beacon. It is used as a keep by the Warriors (Renegades of Gor, 411)
• The light of the Pharos, magnified by mirrors, can be seen for pasangs up and down the river (Renegades of Gor, 414)

• The harbor of Port Cos is huge. As you enter the harbor, with the docks still 300 yards away, the Pharos is still a pasang away behind and to port (left) (Renegades of Gor, 425)
• Along the piers are boxes and crates, and buildings of sail makers, oar makers and sawyers, warehouses, and between them, narrow streets stretching up towards the city (Renegades of Gor, 435) 

About Port Cos

Port Cos is a city on the Vosk. Though founded as a colony by Cos, it is an independent city state and maintains a neutral status. It resists efforts by any of the greater powers (Ar, Cos or any other) who might seek to establish their hegemony over the river towns.

It must be recognized that pure "book" Gor is a virtual impossibility here on AOL. There are too many impediments to fun to make it practical (for example, travel would be far more restricted than would be acceptable to players on AOL.
However, within those limits we are dedicated to providing a "realistic" Gorean environment. We have made certain basic assumptions, such as adhering to John Norman's repeated claim that cruelty and sadism are rare on Gor. Naturally, this is upon OUR interpretation of Gor, and it should be realized that our interpretation might differ from your own.

Paramount for us is an environment where free women are free to express themselves, without threat of collar for speaking their minds, meeting the gaze of a free male or merely walking in front of him. If our ideal of Gor is not yours, we can only recommend that you find another city to role play in. The laws of Port Cos will be rigorously enforced to protect its citizens.

Keep in mind as well that due to the nature of Port Cos and its location, kurii will not be found within the gates, nor Panther Girls (we are far from the northern forest) nor Taluna (we are equally far from the southern jungles) and outlaws will find themselves impaled over the city gates. The city is well protected by a wall and a powerful flotilla of armed ram-ships; it is a living city, full of NPC citizens and soldiers, and attempts at kidnapping free women or slaves from the environs of the city had best be well role played to account for this or may be freely ignored by the intended victim(s).
